I recently launched GigRadio, a new podcast that would complement my music blog GigRadar, which I set up three years ago. The aim of both is to help people discover new music, specifically new rock and metal in an age where bad pop music is, for some reason, popular.

GigRadio presents a regular offering of new music from exciting new bands that we discover from all over the world. We also aim to have an interesting interview with a band from somewhere interesting in the world on each episode.

This ties nicely into my current life status, as a digital nomad travelling the world for 12 months with a travel program called Remote Year. Spending one month in 12 cities over 12 months, I’m really keen to discover new cultures, find out more about the music in the cities I visit, and find out what’s going on with bands in these places.

The latest episode of GigRadio includes an interview with Tokyo-based band We Carried The Boat, which is comprised of an English vocalist and a Vietnamese guitarist who met at college in the Japanese capital. The duo of Kyle and Minh talked to us about a lack of real rock and metal culture in Japan, along with the country’s continuing love of CDs and lack of digital music take-up.

This episode also contains new music from LUTE, our New Band of the Week — a feature that introduces GigRadar readers to a new British band every week. And there’s brand new music from British bands SINKA and Beggar, as well as Aussie rockers Furlong, American band Hollowed Sky, and French duo Hidden Phase.

To date, we’ve brought our listeners insights from Mexico, Vietnam and now Kyoto, and I’m keen to continue doing this as I progress around the world until September.

GigRadio is available NOW on all good podcast platforms. These include:

Spotify | Apple Podcasts | Stitcher | Podchaser | Mixcloud
